Walmart Trip

For everything in the picture above I paid 6 cents!!! TOTAL!!!

Here is how it worked out:

As you may remember I recently posted this deal:

Idahoan Mashed Potatoes, $0.98, Regular Price
Use $1.00/1 – Idahoan Potato Product – (idahoanthanksgiving.com)
Final Price: FREE + $0.02 overage

Well it turns out you can get an even BETTER deal!! Walmart has packages that are original flavor for 50 cents! That means you get 50 cents in OVERAGE for EACH PACKAGE!

Now maybe you don't know how overage works or what it is. Overage is when your coupon exceeds the value of the item. Many stores will not allow overage HOWEVER, Walmart's new coupon policy allows it!

So here is what my trip looked like:

At $0.50 each, this produced an overage of $11.50! I used this money to get 11 two liters (because I forgot to grab two more) and three Reece's I quickly grabbed at the counter when my total came to -$2.16.

After all of that, my grand total was 6 cents for about $22 of product! That is a savings of 99%!!

Taste of Home Magazine

Taste of Home Magazine $3.99/year (up to 4 years) with code KRAZY
This deal will last through tonight (11/10) at midnight (EST). You can purchase this deal as a new subscription or to renew your existing subscription. You can also purchase additional subscriptions as gifts!

Kashi Cereal for 4 cents!! =]

So this one took some planning, but on my recent CVS trip I nagged 10 boxes of cereal for 46 cents!

CVS is doing a special promotion right now that if you buy $30 worth of certain items, you receive a $10 CVS Giftcard! Check out these products here!

So here is how I got this awesome deal:

10 boxes Kashi Cereal priced at $3 each (total $30)

Used 10 $2/1 Kashi Product from RecycleBank

This brought my total to $10.46.

After paying this I received a $10 CVS Giftcard!

This means I payed 46 cents for all 10 boxes!! That is less than 5 cents PER BOX and a total savings of 99%!!!

FREE Idahoan Potatoes!!

Recyclebank! A great way to live and get coupons for doing the right thing!

Hey guys!

I just wanted to let all of you know about this great website called Recyclebank! Every couple of weeks, Recyclebank creates new quizzes, videos, etc. that you participate in and get HIGH DOLLAR COUPONS for =] It is a simple rewards point system. The more you do on the site, the more coupons you get! I have been saving up for a while and cashed in on an awesome "sale" of $2/1 Kashi product! I can't wait to use them because I love Kashi but its expensiveness often turns me off.

The best part about Recyclebank is that you might actually learn something from it. It teaches you ways you can take better care of our environment and rewards your participation with coupons for companies that care just as much as you do!

How to Find Inserts

If you are a college student like me, or in any situation where you do not receive the newspaper, you may feel like you are not able to receive the best coupon deals.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!

Unfortunately, newspapers are where some of the best coupons are--you can't rely on the internet alone!

Thankfully, you have me to tell you how to fix this conundrum =]
  1. Ask friends and families who do not use coupons
  2. Trade coupons with a fellow couponer to get more of the ones you need
  3. DUMPSTER DIVE!
Now, if you are like me (until a couple weeks ago), you may be looking at number three with disgust. Have no fear! This is THE BEST WAY TO GET MULTIPLE COUPON INSERTS!

Before you freak out and leave my blog never to return because you think I am a crazy person, hear me out. You are not visiting an ACTUAL dumpster and you are not actually DIVING in. Instead, this term is loosely used to describe visiting your local recycling center and sifting through the newspaper bin for coupon inserts.

This website proved helpful in finding somewhere to dumpster dive--http://earth911.com/

My experience a few weeks ago with my loyal friends Chelsea and Danielle led me to a brick wall. Unfortunately, the first places I went either did not allow you to take anything (for fear of identity theft), or were barren of coupon inserts. Eventually, our search led us back to my college campus where I didn't expect to find anything. Thankfully I was COMPLETELY WRONG!! I got a ton of good coupons and was able to get higher quantities of things I had already use coupons for.

This video explains some simple techniques you should use =]

Coupon On!! =]

Couponing Basics

I was so excited to start this blog that I almost forgot to explain some of the basics!

Acronyms

SS: refers to Smart Source. This is a coupon insert that can be found in newspapers.

RP: refers to Red Plum. This is a coupon insert that can be found in newspapers.

P&G: refers to P&G Brand Saver. This is not as common as SS and RP, but can also be found in newspapers.

Coupon insert days are usually Sunday although some may get them throughout the week.

Online Coupons

There are tons and TONS of coupons on the internet! Each of the newspaper inserts listed above has a corresponding website with additional coupons that can be electronically "clipped."

Smart Source

Red Plum

P&G Brand Saver

How I will post...

When I post, I will indicate:

  1. What the coupon is for
  2. Where the coupon can be found
  3. How much in savings it is
  4. What it brings the final cost to
The following is an example post (this is not real!):

Crest Toothpaste $1.00

.50/1 Crest Toothpaste (SS)

Final Cost: $0.50 a total savings of $0.50

So in this scenario:
  1. ".50/1" means the coupon is for 50 cents off of 1 Crest Toothpaste
  2. The SS in parentheses indicates that this coupon can be found in the Smart Source
  3. The final cost is $0.50
  4. The total savings is $0.50

Coupon On!

I hope this was a good start. If you ever have ANY questions please feel free to ask =]

Dillions Weekly Ad: 11/7

Here is the Weekly Ad for Dillions.

I will be focusing on Dillions as my primary grocery store because it is a local store and they double coupons! =]

Dillions is running a promotion right now that when you purchase 10 participating items, you save $5 instantly at checkout. I will be searching for the best combination of coupons to get this value the lowest you can!

My Mission

As some of you may already know, I began couponing this summer. Although there were a lot of reasons for this initially, including my lack of a summer job and preparing for college by stocking up with supplies, I soon realized it is silly to NOT coupon. Millions of dollars of coupons are put into circulation each year and yet only a small fraction of these are ever used. If you simply change a few habits and put a little more planning into your shopping routine, you could be saving tons of money a year.

It is a common misconception that couponers buy things just to use a coupon and end up spending more than if they had never tried to use a coupon. It is true that some beginners fall into this hole, but by planning your coupon endeavors, sticking to your plan, and realizing the difference of needs and wants, you will be getting wonderful deals every week.

My mission in this blog is to help enlighten those who have yet find the joy of couponing. There is a special thrill you get when a store literally has to PAY you to take products out of their store. Before too long, you will be impressing your friends and family with your mad savings and impressing thriftiness.
